Just a quick update today as I've made a start on my Eldar noble court with a pair of Harlequins!
The blue and grey one is from the last lockdown but I rebased him and reworked him a bit whilst the purple and white one is new. I tried to add a few checks onto this one and after a shaky start and almost abandoning him, I'm quite pleased with how he turned out!
The Harlequin figures are lovely but do require an awful lot of care when painting as between the two figures, there are 55 gemstones and quite a bit of delicate detail but the extra effort is worth it!
I've also finished painting the first of my Ork civilians who will be getting shown tomorrow and have built a female Ork character who was originally just going to be a random civilian but seems to be getting a life of her own!
I'm also working on another Eldar noble that I've found and at present I'm unsure how he will turn out as I'm not sure about the colour scheme so he may get a wee bit of a reworking before I'm done with him.
After the Harlequins, I'm in need of a simpler figure to relax with and not need to worry about how it turns out so I'm going to have a rummage and see what I've got!
In other news, I've been having a bit of a think about my painting style as I'm aware that it leans towards the brighter end of the spectrum compared to the Grimdark of GW of today.
|Grimdark Mud vs Heroic Shine|
I've been tempted to have a bash at a looser and somewhat grimmer and grimier look for some fantasy miniatures but each time I've tried it out I find it just doesn't look right as I kind of like the bright, vibrant colours of the likes of 90's GW which was a huge inspiration for me but maybe I should try picking up some random cheap figures and having a bash at using lots of brown as an experiment to see if I can get a Blanchitsu style for a mini project and get some figures painted for Brutal Quest when it arrives.
Despite all this, there is something pleasing about a bright, clean fantasy style as I've thoroughly enjoyed working on my older styled Alternative Imperium stuff, bright shiny colours and all so I'll see how I feel after a few experiments but in the meantime, All the best!
