Hunting the Haunted

 Hi!

As promised, I've been having a proper think about what project I want to focus on for the start of next year and have settled on a small scale one that I should be able to do both cheaply and indeed quickly to get a bit of a win under the hobby belt for 2026!

The plan is to use some Western miniatures to play out a mini campaign set in an alternative late 19th century America where strange things are happening requiring daring hunters to enter the effected areas, search for clues and bring the fight to the forces of evil.

Imagine Hunt Showdown meets Silver Bayonet meets Dracula's America.

At present I'm planning on going full on 15mm for the project as it ticks a lot of boxes, namely I can use a 2'x2' or 2'x3' board to play a decent size encounter, I'll also be able to sculpt a lot of the antagonists myself as the scale is pretty forgiving, also it's much better for storage and pretty cheap too!

A few years back, I eventually got round to painting up the Peter Pig western gubbins that I'd had kicking about for at least a decade (if not closer to two!) and they were lovely little figures to work on.

I originally painted and based them with a more mass combat or large warband skirmish in mind but for this project, I will be basing things individually and plan placing a small order when I get the chance to give me enough figures for several warbands (warbands will be something like 3-10 figures strong).

Rules wise, I'll be using my trusty Planet 28/Brutalquest mash up as they're still the best rules that I've tried out over the years and they're super flexible to boot!

With all that said, I may yet end up using 28mm figures as they are both easier to get and have more convertibility into the random gubbins that I'm pondering but the terrain that goes with it will take up a much larger amount of space that is already at a premium!

We'll see how things pan out but I think I need to try making a few sample pieces of terrain to see how I get on but in the meantime, All the best!

Progress of a Sort!

 Hi!

Longtime no update!

Alas real world has intruded upon with our problem neighbours having moved on from flooding our kitchen for the umpteenth occasion in six months to actually damaging the building.

Believe it or not, this is one of the two doors they've broken in a week...

Coupled with constant noise and other unsavoury shenanigans, the police and council are now involved and my hobby time has been decidedly lacking.

Despite all the stress, I have managed to snatch a bit of time to get some random bits and bobs painted as there is nothing like losing yourself in painting miniatures to do away with stress.

I've been working my way through a selection of 15mm scale gubbins from my purchase from Alternative Armies Laserburn sale and some old Peter Pig bits and bobs that I've had in my collection for a good 20 years now.

At the same time, I've been painting some 6mm bits and bobs that I was donated a good dozen or so years back and have sat in a box ever since. I have vague ideas of using them for either Lion or Dragon Rampant and have also painted up a small board that will allow for some small scale gaming.

The recent unpleasant goings on has got me to looking through my rulebook collection in search of inspiration and having recently stumbled upon some youtube videos of folks playing the game Hunt Showdown, I found myself fancying some narrative based horror skirmishing based in the US in the late 19th century.

I've got Dracula's America which looks like a nice simple set of rules that allows for small warbands of desperadoes fighting otherworldly horrors in the wild west which is kind of what I'm hankering after.

At present with all the nonsense going on, I doubt I'll be getting the chance to put together anything with it but hopefully once the unpleasantness is done with I'll get chance to have a proper dig into something a bit different.

In the meantime, I'll keep pootling away with the odds and ends that I've been working on and my next update will hopefully have some actual painted stuff but until then, all the best!
