Lockdown 2.0 Project Log Day 104: It Came From the Sump!

 Hi!

I've been working away on sculpting lots of odds and ends today but have found the time to get another figure sorted for my upcoming game in the form of a creepy spider hybrid!

There have been reports of a ghastly creature emerging from the sewers below Freeport City at night to kill and devour hapless citizens. After initially dismissing these reports, a recent pict capture has proven irrefutable evidence that the creature exists. Unfortunately the Governor General currently has his hands full with an insurgence from organised crime elements and corrupt nobles and doesn't have the troops to spare for a search of the sewers.

Instead he's contacted Inquisitor Fisher and requested she investigate. Keen to discover what the disgusting Xenos is and where it calls its lair, she's arrived on Farpoint and immediately begun an investigation.

The figure is an old prepainted D&D plastic miniature Ettercap that I've had in my collection for ages and with a few washes over the basecoat, the beastie has turned out quite well! I did have a half dozen of them at one point but now only seem to have two so will have to make do with a small monster hunt in the sewers under Freeport City. I suspect that Fisher isn't going to be too keen to descend into the long forgotten depths but her duty requires she goes and will be dragging Vash along to stop him getting into any more trouble.

I'll try and get some more bits and bobs put together for this weekends game and see how things go! In the meantime, All the best!

  1. I have a few of these, and that one looks 1000x better. Great job!

    1. Many thanks!

I've found that quite a few of the old D&D plastics paint up remarkably well!

  2. Ace work on the sump beast!
Wouldn't risk getting anywhere near without fully loaded flamethrower! 😁

    1. Indeed!

I have a second one that I really need to get finished but have been distracted by other stuff!

  3. I repainted some pre-painted Star Wars figs for a game a while back. The only thing I learned was paint the base... the clear coat made the raw base sticky.

    1. I'd had similar issues with prepainted plastics and tend to cut the figures off their original bases, especially the larger stuff whose soft bendy bases were less than ideal!

  4. He's come out really well - a very creepy villain!
