Lockdown 2.0 Project Log Day 41: Fantasy Interlude

 Hi!

With all this sci-fi shenanigans I've not really touched on fantasy miniatures this year at all, instead concentrating on all manner of Rogue Trader, Warzone and possibly Stargrave themed stuff but having devoured this months OLD WORLD ARMY CHALLENGE, I have found myself hankering after some fantasy shenanigans.

Looking at my collection, I'm not short on rulebooks, be it Leviathan, Crucible, Chronopia or Bladestorm, which are all really excellent games in their own right, which have really great settings, unusual forces and fascinating rules. This is all fine and well but I've found that getting miniatures that match the original forces for these games that match my expectation is proving to be remarkably difficult.

Part of my love for these games is that they make a departure from the Tolkienesque or Warhammer world and are unique in their own right (whats not to love about a post apocalyptic fantasy or Elves wearing plate and wielding battleaxes?) but their very uniqueness is making it difficult to source proxy miniatures.

This got me to thinking about using more readily available miniatures and just getting on with it. I'm sorely tempted to go for a mass battle game but I'm still certain that I cannot keep the old attention span long enough for such a large endeavour but I do wonder if I start small I may be able to eventually expand things a wee bit into something a bit grander.

No I'm not going to go for some old school Warhammer, at least not 28mm, but there's always the 15mm option but that's for another day.

I'll need to look through my leadpile to see what I can put together but I'm also going to have a look through my wargame rules collection for a bit of inspiration as theres nothing to stop me from taking cool ideas from one, such as the Bladestorm isles and punting them into the world of Crucible or the House of the Crystal Lotus Elves from Chronopia into Leviathan, much like I've been doing with the Alternative Imperium for sci-fi.

In other news, my Brotherhood shrine is getting there with the build finished and base coated and the detailing underway. As it's a big beast, it's taking quite a bit of work to get it finished but I should have it done by some point tomorrow and will update my further rummagings with my fantasy stuff but in the meantime, All the best!

  1. Thanks for detailing all these different games. I so focused on 40k for so long that I missed a lot.

    1. Quite alright!

There's so many wonderful games out there and following leaving the GW hobby in the mid 90's I picked up loads and still do!

I'll post a bit of a faction focus tomorrow on the House of the Crystal Lotus, the Elves from Chronopia!
