Lockdown 2.0 Project Log Day 78: An Ork, a Security Trooper and a Giant Frog!

 Hi!

Here's the latest addition to my collection!

Giant Ushun Frog, Gloria the Ork and a nameless security trooper

Gloria is the sole owner of the Kasselmine Grog Company of Farpoint. She is both a shrewd business Ork and quite the power amongst the Farpoint community. She has repeatedly butted heads with the previous Governor of the sector for his excessive corruption and 'taxes' he levied on her business.

She founded Kasselmine Grog over two decades ago to feed the insatiable demand for booze amongst the Orkish community. With a taste like battery acid and a kick like a Grox, Kasselmine is a favourite Greenskin tipple but it has been gaining popularity amongst the working class of the Human population, largely because it is cheaper than the next most popular brand. Several younger Nobles have developed a taste for the stuff whilst slumming it in the dive bars of Newport City and Gloria has recently begun expanding her operation to the rest of the sector.

While her business is pretty much legal, Gloria isn't above the odd smuggling contract if the price is right and her Orkish security force is kept busy stopping others busting into her shipments and dealing with Grog Bootleggers.

Gloria was sculpted by myself as a bit of fun and she's developed a bit of a life of her own and I'm looking forward to sculpting some more civilians in the future and adding some generic Ork security troops and possibly some scenery and a transport...

Next up, there's a giant frog:

The Great Ushun Frog is a native of the jungles of Pesh and are highly sought both for their meat and leathery skin. Unfortunately the Great Ushun are notorious for eating those who seek to eat them and excrete a poison from their skin to boot making any attempt at hunting the mighty amphibians an adventure in itself.

Hunters usually resort to using frag grenades to drive them out of their pools and finish them with shock sticks. The value of their skins and meat means that ballistic fire can cause damage that decreases their value. Thus far any attempt to domesticate the creatures have failed and escapees from farms have resulted in the Ushuns taking up residence on several worlds.

The frog was a gift from my wife who picked up a pack of a dozen or so assorted soft plastic frogs from somewhere and I was pleasantly surprised by how well detailed they were and the first one painted up really nicely.

Finally, theres another of the Em4 miniatures plastic security troopers to round out my security squad for the time being!

He's been sat half painted for quite a while now and I figured it was high time to get him finished!

Here's the full squad:

I really need to pick up some more of the little guys once they become available again as they make really nice and cheap generic troops and I think with a grey uniform, they'd make great Imperial Guard troopers too!

I'm slowly amassing a fun little collection of miniatures and will need to get more games in as I paint more stuff. While I've nowhere near enough for a large game, I do hope to put together lots of options for small, scenario driven skirmishes with 5-15 models a side.

I'll need to get another load of civilians of all sorts done as I really like the idea of populating my games with all manner of randomness to get in the way, require rescue, whip into a righteous mob or whatever!

I hope to get a game played this evening and will post a battle report tomorrow but for now, All the best!

  1. Great job sculpting Gloria! She has a lot of character for sure. Paint job is nice too.

Also really like how that security squad is shaping up. The orange makes them pop. Nice figures to have around for sure.

    1. Many thanks!

Gloria is a bit of a rough and ready sculpt but with Orks this is absolutely fine with me! I've just started work on some Bloodaxe commandoes that I hope to introduce to a game in the next few weeks involving skulduggery and butlers...
