Lockdown Day 72

Hi!

I had hoped to post some painted pics of my teeny Canopian infantry but have hit a slight snag.

I got them painted and based and then looked at them and went UGH! After picking them up and putting them down a few times today, I have come to the conclusion that they aren't fit for show and I'll need to give it some thought as to what to do next with regards to infantry in such a small scale.

In lighter news, I've been working on my super cheap gaming mat and have managed to get a couple of quick pics of it as it stands:

Mat in progress

Using my super cheap airbrush that I got from Lidl a few years back (it came with a compressor for £39.99!) I've put on a few thin coats of different browns to get a somewhat arid finish. I still need to add a lot more work with more greys, browns, greens and sandy colours to give it a bit more depth but I'm quite liking it as a gaming surface. My airbrush isn't great as it isn't really a precision tool but does the job for rough work like this.

The fabric cost me £5.99 for a 100cm by 150cm piece of synthetic felt or about 5'x3' which is a good size to work with and if it turns out well, I may invest in a few more colours as I wouldn't mind a blue one for Aeronef or Man o War, a black one for space gaming and a grey one for the likes of Necromunda or Mordheim. For this price, I can get a plethora of workable mats for less than a single fancy pre printed one.

I'll see about getting it finished tomorrow and in the meantime, I've also rummaged out my Land Ironclads stuff as there's a few odds and ends that I really wanted to finish so there may be some pics of my complete Dwarven Landfleet to share which is good.

I've also noticed that Ral Partha Europe have actually got Battletech map sheets for sale for £10 for ten so I may pick up a pack of them which will save me from the ever so tedious job of applying hexes to this!

In the meantime, All the best!

  1. Always a pain when a model doesn't work out. I've found that the more I paint the less willing I am to think "That'll do". I hope you're able to sort it out somehow. That said, the board looks great and it's good to get some terrain so cheaply. Nice work!
