Hi!
As I mentioned in my previous post, I've been slowly getting some of the figures I've painted over the last few months photographed so I can get them on the blog so here's the latest batch in the form of some Orks and a Necromutant!
The figure itself is a Manic Marauder body from their Deadzone set with a GW head and old early 90's shoulderpad from the Ork set by GW. If I was to do the conversion again I'd probably sculpt a more suitable head but he'll do until I can get my hands on some official miniatures!
On a side note, the figure is made from Restic, a weird slightly rubbery plastic that had some truly appalling mould lines which needed carving off and doesn't fit particularly well together either but with a decent coat of paint he's turned out quite nicely.
My next post will cover some wild ramblings about solo gaming and scenario design but I need to get my notes into some sort of order so it may be later in the week before I get it posted up so until then, All the best!
A great bunch of models. Having painted a bunch of orcs, I have to agree the old ones are awesome. I'm probably going to unload all the newer stuff in my boxes one of these days. I've got plenty of old stuff now to suit my needs.
ReplyDeleteIndeed! The older, pre Clan Orks for 1st edition were ace and the plastic armed ones are still great fun but the new gorilla style orks have been utterly loathsome to paint on each occasion I've attempted them!
DeleteThat necromutant kickass!
ReplyDeleteI am not big fan of those GW heads but your piece looks just supercool alltogether. Well done mate! 😎
Many thanks!
DeleteI'm still champing at the bit to get my hands on the new Warzone Eternal figures but its sounding like they're going through a bit of a rethink on the initial range so we'll have to see how they turn out!
The necromutant conversion is really good! That Mantic stuff is awful to work with. I like the old metal orks a lot but I'm not terribly fond of either variety of plastic bodies. Good work!
ReplyDeleteIndeed it is! The restic material is awful to clean and it very rarely seems to line up properly with multiple parts and whatnot but they did paint up rather well.
DeleteI must admit that I wasn't a fan of the old early 90s Ork box but remember picking up a set back when GW used to do their epic 50% sales (I'd intended to pick up Man o War but for some reason bought the Orks instead!) and had sold them off ages ago for peanuts.
I picked up a batch on Ebay a few years back when I was obsessing on the fool idea that I was going to collect and paint a full 2nd edition Ork army and they've mostly sat in a box since so it was high time I actually did something with them!
I'm obviously a huge fan of RT Orks, but I have to say that the necromutant looks interesting -though I cannot but see a brawny Ork! D
ReplyDeleteQuite alright!
DeleteTo be honest, he's a lot more Orky than Mutant but he'll do until I can get my hands on some proper Dark Legion Nectromutants.
The classic 1st edition Orks are brilliant and have so much more character than the soulless modern ones!
