Warhammer 40000 2nd Edition Ponderings

Hi!

Lots of folks have been praising and playing the older editions of Warhammer Fantasy Battle over the last year or so which has got me to wondering if 40k could do with a bit of attention.

2nd Edition!

Taking a look at ebay, it appears that the core box set seems to sell for between £10 and £20 depending on contents and if its got the Dark Millenium supplement, bearing in mind that postage will probably come to about another £7-£10.

Why bother with the box set you may ask? The answer is that it also contains all the mission cards, wargear, templates and so on that adds quite a lot to the game itself, not to mention the notorious plastic miniatures!

I am going to be keeping my eye out to see if I can locate it for less than that before giving it a bit of a review here. The infuriating thing is I actually had the box up until a few years ago but either sold it or, even worse threw it out!

If anyone out there is willing to part with their copy please feel free to get in touch!

I have fond memories of playing Imperial Guard against my friends Chaos or Eldar forces, admittedly getting beaten every time but I still remember it as being a fun game so will have to see what I can come up with.

Now I know that it was rather leaned towards characters but it added a bit of a cinematic element to the game with your heroes and villains slugging it out while wading through their enemies and I think with a little bit of care (not to mention limiting wargear and character use) it could still make for an excellent game and ticks all the boxes for some old school gaming and nostalgia that one could want!

  1. I think its currently going for around £20-£30 for the box set on ebay but the rules themselves are a fair amount cheaper!

    All the best!
