The Great Clearout!

Hi!

Well I have spent much of the last couple of days sorting through the massive pile of miniatures I rescued from my parents attic and found some real gems amongst the bits and bobs.

I will be sorting it all into lots and selling most of it as random bits boxes as theres just too much to sort through! I do have a large pile of Leviathan stuff, both painted and unpainted which will be going on as a bulk lot of its own too so watch this space!

All the best!

Off On Holiday!

Hi!

I am off to Scotland in the morning so wont be able to update the blog for a bit. I will keep an eye on it when I get chance though!

Alas its not really a holiday as I am heading North to empty all my wargaming tat out of my parent attic where some of it has lain undisturbed for almost a decade! I believe there may be some stuff coming back down with me which will come in very handy for Leviathan gaming though!

There will no doubt be a load of stuff getting put on ebay to so keep an eye out for some bargains!

In other news I have managed to get a little painting and sculpting done today and my back is feeling a fair bit better so hopefully I will be able to crack on when I get back!

All the best!

What! No Updates?

Hi!

Alas I havent been able to do anything miniature related for the last few days as I seem to have gypped my back!

Hopefully service will resume as normal in the next couple of days!

In other news REBEL MINIATURES have shown some pictures of some pirate miniatures they are having sculpted:

Sea Witch

I am liking the combination of traditional pirates with a bit of fantasy too and hopefully the rest of the range will be just as interesting. They have also released some Roman Gladiators which would make good pitiful human rabble fighters:

Gladiators

In further miniature news, SPLINTERED LIGHT MINIATURES have released a Cyclops army for Mighty Empires:

Cyclops

They also have some Ratmen in the works which look really nice:

Ratmen

On a related note, I must say that manufacturers of 15mm scale fantasy miniatures seem to be doing themselves a bit of a dis-service as time and time again they show their wares poorly painted. Surely its worth their while to get some decently painted examples to showcase their products properly as I have seen quite a few negative comments on 15mm scale purely for this reason.

Often the miniatures themselves are really lovely sculpts but are disguised by a paint job thats pretty sub standard. I firmly believe that with a little extra presentation they could sell better!

Mini Update!

Hi!

I've now deleted the Aeroth at War blog and imported the posts here!

In other news I have recently received a large load of Demonworld Orcs as part of a commission and will be painting them up when I get chance! I will also need to post a review on here when I get back to Worcester but at first glance they are really beautiful sculpts in true 15mm scale rather than the newer, larger 18mm but should do just fine for some mass battle gaming!

All the best!

Barbarian Warper by Braxandur

It just shows how nice the models are with a decent paintjob!

In other news I am off on holiday until Wednesday so doubt I will have too much chance to get many updates till then!

All the best!

Difficult Decisions

Hi!

Well I have had a rather enlightening lecture as part of my course about copyright. Despite being a rather dry subject it did raise a few points which need addressing with my own business plans.

Essentially I had been planning on sculpting and casting a range of 15mm scale bits and bobs suitable for playing Leviathan. Following the lecture I came to realise how naive this was as not only do two companies currently hold the license for the game but theres one range in production and a second in development. I do not want to step on any toes or take money away from these companies so have decided to go for something completely different with my own work.

This has been an incredibly difficult decision as I know folks have expressed quite a bit of interest in Leviathan and even the possibility of me selling some models. I also have a real passion for the Leviathan setting and dont want it to fade into obscurity. Therefore I have decided to keep this blog running to cover my Leviathan hobby but to refrain from getting any of my current stuff cast.

I will be keeping up the progress of the updates and playing as much of Leviathan as possible but will be beginning development on a new setting to act as a basis for a new range I will develop over the coming weeks. I will also sadly be removing my Aeroth at War blog in a few days time as I just dont have the resources or time to keep developing it. I want to say a big thankyou to Qalpha for his sterling work in posting some truly fascinating articles on it and they will be copied over to here tonight to allow folks to access them if they wish.

Worry not! This is not the end of this blog. I still plan on playing lots of games and generally having fun!

All the best

Richard

Orc Wartower and Assorted Gubbins

Hi!

Heres a couple of pictures of the concept sculpt I did for the Orc Carnosaur:

Orc Carnosaur

It was a bit of a learning process as I had to keep in mind I would be making it to cast but it turned out alright. I will now attempt to make a naked (ie no harness or howdah) sculpt for each of the Orc Warbeasts which I will then cast a couple of copies of and use them as dollies for the final models. These will then be moulded once more and the resulting pieces will be ready to go!

I also finished off a few more Orcs in the form of a Ghost Warrior, a Shaman and a warrior:

Orc Ghost Warrior, Shaman and Warrior

This will round out my Orc force nicely and I will be trying it out against my Dwarves in a Leviathan skirmish game soon.

Finally I sculpted up a trio of Children of the Moon so my warband had some nice heavies:

Children of the Moon

I made an Alpha pack leader and two pack members. They are pretty huge, standing twice the height of a human. I am fairly pleased with the sculpts but think I still need to work on getting the look right in future!

I will be trying to get them painted soon as well so my Children of the Moon warband can have another outing!

All the best!

Leviathan Proxies: The Orcish Horde

Hi!

Heres the second part of my list of proxies for Leviathan in 15mm scale, this time the Orcs!

RAL PARTHA EUROPE has the Demonworld range which has a vast selection of goodies ranging from from Orcs to Goblins and many other bits and bobs!

Demonworld Orcs

Demonworld Goblins

I chose a selection of images which cover everything from regular Orcs to Goraths Chosen, Great Orcs, Goblins and even some suitable proxies for lesser Goblin rabbles!

Next up MAGISTER MILITUM have some nice ranges:

Magister Militum Blood Dawn Orcs and Goblins

Magister Militum Chariot Miniatures Orcs and Goblins

I must admit I love the big chunky Blood Dawn Orcs and the small creepy Goblins from the Chariot range!

Next up heres some SPLINTERED LIGHT MINIATURES Orcs and Goblins:

Splintered Light Orcs and Goblins

They have some really nice sculpts, and although a bit pricey really look the business!

IRREGULAR MINIATURES have some chunky looking Orcs too but they are a bit crouched for my liking:

Irregular Miniatures Orcs

15MM.CO.UK have a couple of ranges which may be handy too:

15mm.co.uk Orcs and Golbins

To be honest I find them to be a bit too skinny to be decent Orcs and the Goblins are too big too but they would do at a pinch!

Alas nobody really makes any war beasts that would be suited to the Orcish horde so if anyone has any suggestions please let me know! I am working on some suitable sculpts but wont have them cast up for a while though!

All the best!

Leviathan Proxies: The Dwarves

Hi!

I have decided to post a bit of an update featuring possible proxy miniatures to play Leviathan with! This will cover both 15mm and 28mm scale eventually as folks are interested in both so without further ado here we go:

Demonworld has possibly the greatest number of miniatures suited to the Dwarves in 15mm scale and RAL PARTHA EUROPE is planning on re-releasing the lot which is fantastic news. Although they may be a bit too Warhammer in style they do have some rather nice warmachines which would make excellent Wargolems. Sadly they don't seem to have any cannons, only mortars...

Demonworld

MAGISTER MILITUM has two rather nice ranges that can be used too in the form of Blood Dawn, the old Reaper range:

Blood Dawn Dwarves

They do have artillery and some really nice infantry (in fact one of the crew of the cannon would make a perfect Technomancer proxy!) I believe they are somewhat on the large side though but the quality looks excellent!

Their Chariot Miniatures range also has some good stuff but I dont know how well it scales to the other ranges:

Chariot Miniatures Dwarves

IRREGULAR MINIATURES also has a fairly extensive range but I can't find a picture of them, the closest being the Evil Dwarves:

Evil Dwarves by Irregular

The quality looks ok but I am unwilling to comment too much on them without seeing them myself as the Irregular range can look really good when painted but still contains some iffy sculpts...

SPLINTERED LIGHT MINIATURES has an extensive range of Dwarves too!

Splintered Light Dwarves

They are a bit Norse looking but would still do!

Finally 15MM.CO.UK has some Dwarves too. These come in two different ranges, the Tabletop Fantasy ones:

Tabletop Fantasy Dwarves

And the HOTT range:

HOTT Dwarves from 15mm.co.uk

To be honest both look quite nice but the HOTT ones look a tad tall and skinny for my likings!

Now this covers mostly infantry with the occasional war engine but for the iron beasts themselves we need to look further afield!

RAL PARTHA produces the Mageknight Metal range which has some really nice bits and bobs which may prove handy:

Mage Knight Steam Constructs!

Although intended for 28mm they have some really nice armour that would make a perfect Wargolem in 15mm scale. These can often be picked up online in plastic for next to nothing which is a definite plus!

Next up PRIVATEER PRESS, producers of Warmachine have an extensive collection:

Privateer Press Warjacks

Theres enough to keep any Dwarven player content!

Finally theres the Dungeons and Dragons Plastics:

D&D Miniatures!

Again these are available in metal and plastic but the plastics are vastly cheaper in the most case.

Steamtanks are a bit more probematic to be honest as I have yet to find a suitable proxy miniature for any of those listed in the rulebook which is a tad surprising!

The closest I can get is from BLACK HAT MINIATURES VSF range:

Black Hat Miniatures Steam Tanks

Although they are wheeled they might do at a pinch...

Another suggestion was to use COMBAT WOMBATS Self Propelled Gun:

Combat Wombat SPG

Its a tad sci-fi looking but is the right shape and with some smokestacks could well work but would need cutting down in length a bit as its huge!

Hopefully this will give folks some inspiration to have a bash at some 15mm fantasy goodies. I am sure I missed some out but it should give you a starting point!

I will try and get a 28mm scale proxy post sorted out after I've gone through the remaining forces in 15mm so hang in there!

All the best!
